I have a 2003 Pro-x 700. My rpm gauge is sitting at 5000 rpm when i am at idle. When I hit the throttle the gauge reacts as it normally would but between the range of 5000-10000+. I think this has something to do with the gauge because my engine sounds and performs as normal. The engine is not reving out, just the gauge. Any ideas? Thanks

Thanks for the welcome.

Some tachs are electronic and at an idle the curent might be low causing erratic flucuation.
Full throttle and its back to normal.

absolutely, My wifes sled does that. Especially if the idle is set too low if its a carburated sled.

No, after the break in period, I needed to bump up the idle to 1700rpm. It was idling way too low at 1200rpm. Now the guage is correct all the time.

headbang.gif thanks guys I will try these tips and let you know. How are the trails looking? Will we be able to ride this weekend? It was a little bony last weekend, especially the new trail for ITS 71. once you got past that it was good riding in the water shed land with the Army Cor of Engineers signs. Is it still good in there? headbang.gif

banghead.gif laugh1.gif laugh1.gif You got me. She did take on alot of water. I left it out because it was in a sensitive area that ive been riding since i was 10 years old and I just wanted the dust to settle before i had fines and stuff like that coming my way. I do think that is the problem and I'm gonna spray all the electrical components with "water displacement # 40" WD-40 and see what happens. If they used it for war heads it might be the trick for my sled.
